Harry Beagle's Outback Camping Adventure.... The Australian Outback.

  •
A Camping Adventure in the Outback of Australia hadn't been Harry Beagle's idea. Harry's idea of a holiday would be staying in his own backyard. But.... Harry's best friend was Ingrid Blackberry the Brave...
or so Harry thought. He wished he had a shred of Ingrid's courage and adventure.
He also wished he hadn't been talked into being Ingrid's camping trip buddy.

Fortunately Ingrid was a well prepared girl scout. Campfires, finding food, setting up camps... no problem. Leave it to Ingrid.

If they came across a fast flowing river, no worries, Ingrid would find a way to cross.

Harry always a few steps behind....
Ingrid stopped to reflect on nature.
"Isn't nature so beautiful!" she exclaimed.
"Well, not quite as nice as my own backyard" Harry kept his opinion to himself.  It all seemed so big, so wide...rather frightening.

Day Two found them clambering along a rock ledge, Harry's eyes shut tightly. He daren't look down! He was sure he'd have nightmares about this for years!

And fighting their way through a Jungle, keeping closely behind Ingrid... afraid he might get lost!

Ahhh....finally they found there way through.... and saw what was beyond....

The Great Australian Outback stretching out before them.
After a long day's journey Harry looked forward to a campfire dinner and a sleep.

As Ingrid counted stars and pointed out the Southern Cross constellation, Harry thought about his own cosy bed at home.

The next morning having breakfasted, Ingrid spied a hill she wanted to climb. "I bet there's a great view from the top!" as she raced off, leaving Harry to struggle upward.

"Look how far we can see" pointed out Ingrid, "Aren't you glad we're here?"

But suddenly she lurched backwards....
And when Harry looked around she wasn't there anymore!
Ingrid he shouted, and plucked up courage to scramble down the side of the steep bank as quickly as he could.
"Ingrid!" he shouted, but there was only a moan.
"Oh no! Are you alright??!!"
"I think I've hurt my ankle", she groaned. "I don't know if I can walk on it. It 's very painful"

"What are we going to do?" wondered Harry. "We're out in the middle of the Outback... miles from anywhere."
"You'll have to be brave for me, Harry", she winced.
"Me? Brave?....."
He had to be.
What was he to do now?
To be continued next week.....

Windmill Washing Day - A farewell tribute to my Sylvanian Windmill

I wanted to take some pictures of my 1990 Old Mill Windmill which is soon to be up for sale, so the best way seemed to put it into a story and keep a memory of it.

The Old Mill has always been a busy place in Possum Creek. The home of Chester and Willow Thistlethorn.  So many comings and going.

Their hospitality is legendary.

A home where everyone feels welcome... and everyone pops in for a cup of tea, or to lend a hand, or just for a chat.

And on this fine day there's a perfect gentle breeze for Willow Thistlethorn's washing.

While young Sonny Seabreeze is over from the Grand Mansion lending Chester Thistlethorn a hand. Sonny loves winding the winch at the Old Mill.... the view is always spectacular.

While Willow is hanging the washing out a strong breeze blows a yellow towel right out of her hand

" Oooooh" squeaks Willow, as it flies up, up and away.

As she watches the breeze toss it high, then let it gently land on one of the Old Mill's blades.
Oh, Mrs Thistlethorn, M'am, May I be of help" Sonny rushes to her aid.

"Oh Sonny, you can't", cried Willow. "How could you possibly reach that"

"Poohoo!" said Sonny. "I've had plenty of practice climbing our stone wall at home. This can't be too much different"

"Whoooahhh!" wobbled Sonny. "Maybe it is a little different"

Heroically he made his way to the top of the blade. "Nearly there... just a few more inches and I'll have it."

When suddenly a gust of wind blew the windmill blades...a AWAY WENT SONNY! "Woooooooooaaaaaah!"

And around.... and down and up again "Hello, Mrs Thistlethorn... I've nearly got your towel!" he called as he flew past her....again.

Finally on round seven, Sonny managed to grab the yellow towel.

Tossing it down to Mrs Thistlethorn, who caught it."Oh thankyou, Sonny" cried Willow, clutching her towel and turning towards Sonny, but where was Sonny?
Can you spot him?

She looked up. She looked down....
"Mmmmmff. ummmmf Mmmmmf quite alright, Miffus Thiffle Mmmmorn" there seemed to be a bush muttering below.

And out of a leafy bush emerged a triumphant Sonny Seabreeze.
"Gosh. That was an awesome ride!"

The Thistlethorn family rushed to help him.
"Three cheers for Sonny!" Willow applauded, as she picked leaves and branches off Sonny.
"Anytime, Mrs T" Sonny grinned... "Just don't tell my Mum"

Have you ever wondered about using Non-Sylvanian items as props. There are many other branded items available which work well. I love the Schleich brand items, such as hay bales, pitchfork, wheelbarrow, buckets. They work perfectly in Sylvanian scenes, adding that little bit extra. See Sylvanian-sized items here.

Sonny Seabreeze takes over the Grand Mansion!

Some of these Sylvanian Families vintage items can be purchased at

New to town, Captain Seabreeze and his endearing family move into the Grand Manor...

Thankfully there's Mr Waters the gardener to help keep everything trim and tidy, with a bit of help from Sonny and Booboo.

It's time for a family photo on the steps of our new home! Face the camera, Sonny!

Sonny!!! Sigh, always someone's got to ruin the family snapshot.

How Gallant! Fresh flowers from Captain Seabreeze for his wife.... from his very own new garden!

And a large green lawn, perfect for Sonny to learn to ride his new bike....

"Look, Mum, no hands!".... er... watchout, Sonny!

CRASH! Ooops!

"Are you alright, Sonny!

And a new wall to climb... "Be Careful now, Sonny!"

And for Sissy Seabreeze big lawns are great for picnics, to invite all your new friends and share secrets and sweet treats!

Until Sonny appears from behind a bush... "Anyone for football?"

"Watch my new kick!"

Oh no, Sonny!
